355 Bryant Street Lofts

A circa-1917 warehouse and printing shop turned into 44 live/work lofts in 1992 — one of the trio of early David Baker conversions (with 601 4th and the Clock Tower) that set the template for every San Francisco loft that followed. When these units first sold, the building went pending in ninety days.

The draw is structural: exposed brick, eighteen-foot ceilings, and giant old-growth redwood columns logged at the turn of the last century. Four stories, a small enough community that units come up rarely, and a South Beach location that walks to both the waterfront and the Caltrain corridor.
